How To: Deal with Acne

You know what’s frustrating? Being in your 30s (or 40s, or 50s) and thinking that you have finally put the bane of any teenager’s existence, acne, behind you. Then suddenly you wake up with several massive pimples and you are 13 all over again.

It really isn’t fair. At all. You know if you pick at it, it will just turn red and you will have to go to work with a beacon on your face. If you squeeze it, it will be that much more angry and might lead to a scar.

So what can you do about it? Well as Benjamin Franklin once said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” So here are 4 easy ways to help prevent those pimples from becoming a reality.

  1. Wash Your Pillowcases–Once a week, strip your bed linens and wash them on a warm cycle. Pillowcases especially trap oil and dirt which will transfer to your face. If you suffer from butt or back acne, dirty sheets might be the culprit.
  2. Wash Your Brushes–This is one of the easiest to forget, but your make-up brushes need to be washed with warm water and soap once a week and then rinsed really well. (BRB going to wash my brushes.)
  3. Clean Your Phone–Your cell phone case, as well as your office and home phone, should be wiped down daily. Think about how long you have held that thing to your face, put it in your purse, dropped it on the ground, let someone else use it– all those oils and dirt are on your phone and, subsequently, on your face. YUCK!
  4. Limit Hot Showers–The longer you spend in a hot shower, the more drying it is to your skin. Drying out your skin can cause breakouts just like oils and dirt. Limit your shower time or lower the temperature to see a change.

Lastly you might consider using a topical treatment like PCA Skin Acne Cream. It works miracles at the spa for our clients. Give us a call and we will set aside some for you.
